We thanked God for our sponsors and everything. We had a delicious “gallo pinto” (our typical Costa Rican breakfast) with egg. We played some very fun games like passing objects without letting go of each other’s hands. We laughed a lot. The objective was to teach that upon working together, we can achieve things that might seem impossible. 

In English class, the kids practiced some sentences, in which the kids had to put prepositions (in, on, under, next to, between, behind, in front of) that corresponded to what was needed in the sentences.

In Math class, the little ones had to count until arriving to the amount that was solicited. The sixth graders did multiplication and division. The high schoolers did combined operations (for example: 5×6 +24÷6 +14).

In Bible class, we continued with the story of David. After David sinned with Bathsheba, God sent the Prophet Nathan so that he would exhort him. David’s son died, and afterwards, David had three children, but they sinned, and a son of David wanted to take away his throne. Again, we reinforced the idea that our sins have ugly consequences.

Dimos gracias a Dios por nuestros patrocinadores y todo. Desayunamos un delicioso “gallo pinto” (nuestro desayuno tradicional costarricense) con huevo.

Hicimos unos juegos muy divertidos como  pasar objetos sin soltarse las manos. Nos reímos mucho. El objetivo era enseñar que al trabajar juntos, podemos lograr cosas que parecieran imposibles.

En la clase de Inglés, los niños practicaron unas oraciones, en las cuales los niños tenían que poner la preposición que correspondía (in, on, under, next to, between, behind, in front of) a lo que necesitaba la frase.

En la clase de matemáticas, los pequeños  tenían que contar hasta llegar al monto solicitado. Los de sexto grado hicieron multiplicaciones y divisiones. Los del colegio hicieron operaciones combinadas (por ejemplo: 5×6 +24÷6 +14).

En la clase bíblica, continuamos con la historia de David. Después de que David peco’ con Betsabe’, Dios mandó al profeta Natan para que lo exhortara.

El niño de David murio’ y después, David tiene tres hijos pero pecaron y un hijo de David quería quitarle el trono. De nuevo, reforzamos la idea que nuestros pecados tienen consecuencias feas.

Today, we began our day as always praying for the kids and our sponsors.

In English class, the kids reviewed the greeting of good morning, what is your name, please and thank you, and also the professions like: doctor, nurse, policeman, teacher; and also, the parts of the body like: mouth, nose, ears, eyes, head, hands and feet. The kids did little tests in English to recognize some figures, animals,

numbers, and letters. 

Afterwards, they ate.

In Math class, they did a short test with the numbers and joined points and lines. 

In Bible class, the subject was Genesis 11:1-9 about “a tower of rebellion: Babel.”

Babel means confusion.  God gave Noah an order to populate the earth with many families and construct buildings in stone, but they began constructing a big tower in bricks that according to them would reach to the heavens. They spoke the same language, and so God decided to confuse them by giving them different languages so that they would not understood what they spoke, and so God dispersed all the people. 

We taught the kids that the tower was a show of rebellion and that they wanted to be equal to God, and became proud. Due to their pride, God stopped their plan upon confusing the languages. 

We reminded the kids that we should be humble because God hates pride, and He will not prosper us in our projects if we are prideful. 

In the time of arts and crafts, we built towers with cardboard boxes as something symbolic, and we tore them down.

Empezamos el día como siempre orando por los niños y los patrocinadores. 

En la clase de inglés, los niños repasaron  el saludo de buenos días, como se llama,  por favor y gracias; y también las profesiones como: doctor, enfermera, policía, maestra; y también las partes del cuerpo como: boca, nariz, orejas, ojos, cabeza, manos y pies. 

Los niños hicieron exámenes cortos de inglés reconociendo unas figuras, animales, números y letras.

Después desayunaron. 

En la clase de matemáticas, hicieron un exámen corto con los números y unieron puntos y líneas.

En la clase de Biblia, el tema era Génesis 11:1-9 sobre “una torre de rebelión: Babel.” Babel significa confusión. 

Dios le dio una orden a Noé que el pueblo debería poblar la tierra de muchas familias y construir en piedra edificios pero ellos empezaron a desobedecer a Dios y comenzaron a construir en ladrillos una gran torre que según ellos llegaría hasta el cielo. Ellos hablaban una misma lengua y así que Dios decidió confundirlos al darles diferentes lenguas para que ellos no entiendan lo que hablaban y así Dios dispersó a toda la gente. Enseñamos a los niños que la torre fue una muestra de rebeldía que ellos quisieron ser iguales a Dios y se volvieron orgullosos. Por su orgullo, Dios detuvo su plan al confundir las lenguas. 

Recordamos a los niños que debemos de ser humildes porque Dios odia el orgullo y no nos va a prosperar en nuestros proyectos si somos orgullosos. 

En el tiempo de manualidades, construimos torres con cajas de cartón como algo simbólico y lo derribamos.

Today, we thanked God for having the opportunity to be in Alturas and for our sponsors who are so kind. We blessed the food, and we ate.

In Math class, the little ones studied subtraction. The littlest ones colored a turkey that had numbers to subtract. So, first, they had to subtract to be able to color the color that corresponded to that letter. In Math class, the youth learned factoring and geometry. Then, they played some games.

In English class, they answered questions and described things with those words.

In Bible class, we talked about “the house of David.” This theme is found in 2 Samuel 11, which talks about David being a king and having any amount of women that he wanted, but David wanted something that was prohibited- another man’s wife-Bathsheba, who was married to Uriah.

Then, David decided to kill him upon placing him on the front row of the soldiers at war.  In this way, he could have Uriah’s wife. God commanded a priest to tell David that he was not going to die, but due to his greed, the son that he was going to have would die. We taught the kids that nothing good can ever come out of greed, and that sin will always come to light and have an ugly consequence.

Hoy dimos gracias a Dios por tener la oportunidad de estar en Alturas y por nuestros padrinos que tienen un corazón tan bondadoso. Bendecimos los alimentos y desayunamos. 

En la clase de matemáticas, los más pequeños estudiaron restas. Los más pequeños pintaron un pavo que tenían números para restar. Entonces, primero tenían que restar para poder pintar el color que le correspondía a ese número. En la clase de matemáticas, los jóvenes vieron factorización y geometría. Después jugaron unos juegos. 

En la clase de inglés, contestaron preguntas y se describían cosas con esas palabras. 

En la clase bíblica, hablamos de "la casa de David.” Este tema se encuentra en 2 Samuel 11, la cual habla de que David siendo un rey y teniendo cualquier cantidad de mujeres, David quiso algo prohibido-la esposa de otro hombre, Betsabe’, quien era casada con Urías. Entonces David decidió matarlo porque lo mandó a pelear en la primera fila de soldados en la guerra. De esta manera, podría tener a la esposa de Urías. Dios mando’ a un sacerdote a decirle a David que él no moriría pero por su avaricia, el hijo que él iba a tener moriría. Les enseñamos a los niños que la avaricia nunca deja nada bueno y el pecado siempre va a salir a la luz y va a haber una consecuencia desagradable.

Today, we thanked God for the opportunity of a new day, and we gave thanks to God for the food and for the sponsors that generously bless us every Thursday.

Afterwards, the kids played with PlayDoh, and played and ran with Hula hoops. 

Then, in English class, we reinforced the numbers, days of the week, professions and months of the year, etc. In Math class, they took a short exam of counting and addition.

The kids ate, and then they had Bible class.

The subject was “the promise of the rainbow.” We taught them that when the waters resided after the flood, Noah and his family left the ark, they made an offering to God for having saved them, and God was pleased with the gift, and because of that He promised that he would give a sign that a rainbow would appear, which was the first rainbow in the sky. The rainbow is God’s sign that the world would never again be destroyed by a flood. 

We taught the kids also that God gives us many promises that we are not going to be alone, and that He takes care of us, guides us, heals us, and loves us. We sang a song that talks about the colors of the rainbow. 

In arts and crafts time, the kids filled in the picture of a rainbow with some pieces of colored paper, and each one asked the teacher to write a promise that God has made to them as His children. Our God always fulfills His promises in his time.

Hoy dimos gracias a Dios por la oportunidad de un nuevo día y dimos gracias a Dios por los alimentos y por los padrinos que generosamente nos bendicen todos los jueves. 

Luego, los niños jugaron con plasticina y jugaron corriendo con aros.

Después, en la clase de inglés,

reforzamos los números, días de la semana, profesiones y meses del año, etc.

En la clase de matemáticas, hicieron un examen corto de contar y sumar. 

Los niños desayunaron y luego tuvimos la clase de Biblia.

El tema fue “La promesa del arcoíris.”

Les enseñamos que cuando las aguas bajaron después del diluvio, Noé y su familia salieron del arca, hicieron una ofrenda a Dios por haberlos salvado, y a Dios le agradó el regalo, y por eso le prometió a Noé que nunca más destruiría al mundo con un diluvio y le prometió que por señal iba a aparecer el primer arco iris en el cielo.  El arco iris es la señal de Dios de que más nunca el mundo será destruido por un diluvio. 

Enseñamos a los niños que también Dios nos da muchas promesas de que no vamos a estar solos y que El nos cuida, guía, sana y ama. Cantamos una canción que habla de los colores del arcoíris.

En el tiempo de manualidades, los niños llenaron con unos bodoquitos de color el arcoíris y que cada uno pidió a la maestra que escribiera una promesa de Dios para ellos como Sus niños. Nuestro Dios siempre cumplirá Sus promesas en Su tiempo.
