A mother called us and told us that her 7 kids and she had nothing to eat. How would you feel if your kids tell you “Mommy, I am hungry,” and you had to look at your kids and say “there is nothing to eat.” In addition to this, due to lack of rain, there isn’t much water in supply, so the water company shuts off the water a lot, and so many times, this family and others do not even have water to drink. This is unimaginable, but true! However, thanks to God and our sponsors, our kids, Alturas staff, and other women of the ministry- a total of 60 people- received provision again from heaven in the form of 60 sets of groceries so they they could survive! Thank you for what you do that means a lot to our kids, staff, etc.!

Una madre nos llamó y nos dijo que sus 7 hijos y ella no tuvieron nada de comer. Cómo sentirías si tus hijos te dicen “mami tengo hambre” y tuvieras que mirar a tus siete hijos y decir “no hay nada para comer.” Además de eso, por falta de lluvia, no hay agua y la compañía de agua  corta el agua, entonces muchas veces esta familia y otras ni siquiera tienen agua para beber. Esto es algo inimaginable pero es cierto! 

Sin embargo, gracias a Dios y nuestros patrocinadores, esos niños, nuestro equipo de Alturas y otras mujeres del ministerio - un total de 60 personas-recibieron de nuevo provisión del cielo en la forma de otros diarios para que pudieran sobrevivir! Gracias por lo que haces que significa muchísimo para nuestros niños, staff, etc.!

On March 6, we had our first case of Covid-19, and we started a process of our “limited” quarantine in Costa Rica on March 16, and church, school, food kitchen, and store closings and also firings were happening every moment. Previous to this, I was worried about our kids and their families, and our staff since we could not have Alturas each week. 

Our kids depend on us to contribute to their nutrition through meals, intellectual progress through education, and spiritual well-being being through Bible Study. 

As soon as I saw that food was being limited in grocery stores and car transit limited, I prayed for God to make a way for us to buy groceries for all 45 of our kids, our staff, and some women to whom we minister. The total of all of these people is 60 so we needed 60 sets of groceries! 

On Saturday, March 14, we were able to buy 60 sets of groceries and hand them out! (See pictures below!). This was such a God moment because the quarantine started two days after we gave out the groceries! 

Our goal is 2 x a month which would be 120 sets of groceries! When I arrived at one of the kids’ shanties, he shouted: “it’s Amy” with joy as he saw the groceries! I could take Jesus’ love manifested by taking the groceries (thanks to you sponsors) to starving, needy kids who have no other hope!

I am believing God that He will provide for us to continue to buy groceries for each of these 60 people so that our kids can continue to grow in nutrition, and each of our kids, staff, and the women we minister to will grow in faith seeing that the God of the universe always provides!

El 6 de marzo, tuvimos nuestro primer caso de Covid-19 y empezamos un proceso de nuestra cuarentena “limitada”en Costa Rica el 16 de marzo donde cerraron iglesias, escuelas, comedores y negocios y también despidos estaban pasando cada minuto. Antes de eso, yo estaba  preocupada por nuestros niños y sus familias y nuestro staff porque no podríamos tener Alturas cada semana.  Nuestros niños dependen de nosotros para contribuir a su nutrición con comida, progreso intelectual por medio de educación y su bienestar espiritual por medio del estudio bíblico. 

Tan pronto que vi que se estaban restringiendo la compra de comida y el tránsito de los carros, ore’ para que Dios hiciera una manera para que podríamos comprar diarios para todos los 45 niños, nuestro staff y para algunas mujeres a quienes ministramos. El total de todas esas personas es 60 entonces necesitábamos 60 diarios! 

El 14 de marzo, pudimos comprar y entregar 60 diarios (Vean las fotos abajo!). Eso fue un “momento de Dios” porque la cuarentena empezó dos días después de que entregamos los diarios! 

Nuestra meta es 2 veces cada mes, la cual sería 120 diarios al mes! Cuando llegué para la primera entrega de los diarios, uno de los niños gritó “es Amy” con gozo cuando vió los diarios! Yo pude mostrar el amor de Jesús en llevar los diarios (gracias a ustedes patrocinadores) a los niños necesitados quienes están con muchísima hambre quienes no tienen otra esperanza! 

Estoy creyendo que Dios proveerá para cada uno de estos 60 diarios para que nuestros niños pueden continuar crecer en nutrición y que cada uno de nuestros niños, staff y las mujeres a quienes ministramos pueden crecer en fe al ver que el Dios de universo siempre provee!

We welcomed the kids, and we prayed for what is happening worldwide about the corona virus. We asked for God’s protection over the affected countries, and afterwards, we prayed for our sponsors so that God would keep them healthy, and we prayed for our food.

Afterwards, we showed a film to the kids  about bullying (which affects young people a lot, especially those that are poor or have a low self-esteem). The film dealt with a teen who was made fun of due to her size (she was tall), and also of others who were made fun of due to their skin color.

The ending finished with a good message that it is that each one makes a decision to not let bullying affect them upon believing in themselves and also upon seeking help from people who are trained to help you. We gave everyone ice cream because they behaved well. 

In Bible class, we talked about Jeremiah 33:3. They did an activity that showed that the farther away we are from someone, it is more difficult to hear and see them.  Sometimes we cannot hear or see God because we feel that He is far away, and we believe that He does not hear us due to the distance that we put, but He hears us. God asks that we be obedient to His Word, and in seeking Him closer, we can hear and see Him better.

Dimos la bienvenida y oramos por lo que está pasando a nivel mundial sobre lo de la corona virus. Pedimos protección de Dios sobre los países afectados y luego oramos por nuestros patrocinadores para que Dios los mantenga con salud y oramos por nuestros alimentos.

Luego, mostramos a los niños una película   sobre el bullying que afecta mucho a los jóvenes-especialmente los jóvenes de bajos recursos o que tienen autoestima baja. La película se trataba de una joven que por su tamaño (era alta) se burlaban de ella y también se burlaron de otros por el color de su piel.

El final termino’ con un buen mensaje que es que uno toma la decisión de no dejar que el bullying lo afecta al creer en sí mismo y también al buscar apoyo en personas preparadas para ayudarle a uno. Les dimos a todos un helado porque se portaron muy bien. 

En la clase Bíblica, hablamos de Jeremías 33:3.  Hicieron una actividad que mostraba que en cuanto a más está la distancia que estamos de alguien, más nos cuesta oír y verles. A veces no podemos sentir a Dios porque lo sentimos lejos y creemos que El no nos escucha por esa distancia que nosotros ponemos pero Dios nos escucha. Lo que pide Dios es que seamos obedientes a su Palabra y que a la medida que lo busquemos de cerca, podemos oírle y verle mejor.
